He took some leftovers

He made a grey insect,
Wings in a triangle.

He said hello to me,
He asked me where I’d live,
I said: what’s left?
Everything has a place,
Let no waste go to waste,
I’ll live in dirt.

I am the drain fly.
Nobody likes me.
I’m an intruder to you.

I’m nowhere welcome.
Nobody calls me
Beautiful.

Of all the space in the world
There’s so little that I want,
So little I need.
Give me where it’s damp and dank,
A corner of sewage pipe
Is heaven to me.

Let me call it my home,
Let me be born there and grow,
And eat, and breathe.
And when my wings get strong,
I might come visit your home,

I am a drain fly.
Nobody wants me
On their bathroom wall.

I am so little,
I hurt nobody,
